HSI and HTAR source code is available to HPSS Site Administrators at sites which have signed an HPSS Source Code License Agreement with IBM, and an HSI Source Code License Agreement with Gleicher Enterprises. The HSI Package is jointly owned by Gleicher Enterprises and IBM, and includes some proprietary HPSS source code that is used with IBM's permission. The HSI Package cannot be freely distributed at this time. Gleicher Enterprises intends to continue pursuing the open distribution of this package in the future. |
We provide pre-built executables of both HSI and HTAR from this site. In order to avoid run-time linker issues, some of the executables are built with full or partial static linking. The executables that are downloaded from this site were built with the following settings:
- Kerberos, Combo and Keytab authentication methods are enabled.
- All supported OpenSSL cipher types are enabled
- The executable name ends with ".exe". The convention used at Gleicher Enterprises is to use a wrapper script for HSI and HTAR, which invokes the "hsi.exe" or "htar.exe" executable.
- The HSI Local configuration directory is set to /usr/local/etc. This is where the host-global "hsirc" file lives. The location of this file is a compile-time option, but local system administrators may use symbolic links to change this. For example, at one site, the HSIRC file lives in /usr/local/apps/hsi/etc/hsirc, and the following symlink is used.
- The default compile-time connection site is to Gleicher Enterprises' HPSS system, which cannot be reached from outside of the GEL firewall. This must be changed, as described below in step 4 of the Download Instructions.

Download Instructions
1. Using your browser's "download" feature, click on the link for the executable(s) that you wish to download
2. After downloading, use the md5sum utility or equivalent to verify the checksum for the executables
3. Move the downloaded executable to the location on your machine where it will be executed, for example, to /usr/local/bin.
4. For HSI you must set up an hsirc file and/or an HSI wrapper script to cause HSI to connect to your HPSS system.
5. For HTAR, you must set up an HTAR wrapper script to set the environment variables that cause HSI to connect to your HPSS system.
