Announcing HSI 3.4.2
HSI Version 3.4.2 is now available for HPSS Release 6.2 sites.
New features in this release include:
Global New Features:
■ Better security by using openssl encryption for the combo and keytab authentication mechanisms.
■ Performance improvements for the XDR layer, resulting in faster listings, directory scans, etc. for large directories
■ User mapfile support on the HSI Gateway Server to allow mapping of users from different realms to the local HPSS realm
■ Default number of Copies can now specified on the HSI Gateway Server machine; this is automatically used as the default for HSI and HTAR auto-COS selection.
■ A .netrc file can optionally be used to supply the username and password for the local and combo authentication methods, by setting the HPSS_USE_NETRC_FILE environment variable
■ HSIGWD server support on Linux-based PPC 64 platforms
HSI New Features:
■ history and command-line editing enhances the interactive use of HSI by making it easy to recall and edit previously typed commands, using either vi or emacs style editing. The -E editor-style command line option can be used to specify either vi or emacs editing, or the .editrc file can be used to specify this setting, as well as a number of other options.
■ Support for HPSS file families, using the family_id keyword on the SET, PUT, and CP commands, and with the family_id
option in the hsirc file. This can be done independently of the underlying fileset (** requires HPSS 6.2.2.1 or later)
■ Support for site-style accounting with the newacct and chacct commands, and the -a accountID|accountName command line option
■ SU/SUDO feature allows trusted users to perform HPSS operations without requiring unfettered root access. Several new commands (id, whoami, su, and sudo) were added for this feature.
HTAR New Features:
■ Support for site-style accounting with the -Hacct=accountID|accountName command line option for HTAR
■ Added "umask" command line option (-Humask=xxx)
■ Support for HPSS file families, using the -H family=id option on the command line. This can be done independently of the underlying fileset (** requires HPSS 6.2.2.1 or later)
■Support for the IBM GPFS/HPSS Interface (GHI) - HTAR is used as the file aggregation mechanism for the newly announced GPFS/HPSS Interface, which was demonstrated at Supercomputing 2007 as part of the Billion File Demonstration and subsequently released as a separate component for HPSS Release 6.2.2.0.
Prerequisitess for HSI 3.4.2
■ HPSS 6.2.2.0 or later is required for the GPFS/HPSS Interface (GHI) feature for HTAR
■ HPSS 6.2.2.1 or later is required in order to make use of the "file family" enhancements to HSI and HTAR
■ openssl-0.9.8g or higher is required for both the HSI Gateway and for all clients
